MultiBank Group Names Mohammed Al Hakim Vice Chairman and MB.io CEO
MultiBank Group has appointed Mohammed Al Hakim as vice chairman of the Dubai-based financial derivatives firm and chief executive officer of MB.io, its cryptocurrency and digital asset trading platform. Al Hakim will also oversee the growth of MultiBank Exchange, the group's interbank trading venue.
In his new role, Al Hakim will work with MultiBank Group Founder and Chairman Naser Taher on relationships with financial institutions, government bodies, and sovereign wealth funds. His responsibilities include developing the group's work in real-world asset tokenization, institutional trading, and cross-border settlement through MB.io and MultiBank Exchange.
The appointment comes as MultiBank Group launches MultiBank Exchange and develops an ecosystem that connects traditional finance with digital asset services. The group says its valuation is US$32 billion (AED 117 billion) and that it has handled US$450 billion (AED 1.65 trillion) in trading volume. Its reported peak daily trading volume is US$55 billion (AED 202 billion).
MultiBank Group also describes MultiBank Exchange's matching engine as the fastest in interbank trading history. The company has not provided further details about how it measured that performance in the information accompanying the announcement.
Taher said Al Hakim's experience with regulation, institutional markets, and digital assets will support the group's international plans. He also pointed to Al Hakim's record of building partnerships as an asset as MultiBank Group develops its financial services and expands its presence in global markets.
Al Hakim's Experience at Crypto.com and in the UAE
Before joining MultiBank Group, Al Hakim served as president and general manager of Crypto.com. He previously held a senior leadership position in the UAE federal government and graduated from the Mohammed bin Rashid Leadership Program.
At Crypto.com, Al Hakim led partnerships with Emirates and Dubai Duty Free. In July 2026, Crypto.com Pay launched with Emirates, giving eligible customers in the UAE the option to pay for flights through the airline's website and app. The service also launched with Dubai Duty Free in August 2026. The retailer became the first airport retailer in the Middle East to offer the regulated payment service in its airport stores and online.
Al Hakim also secured a Stored Value Facilities license for Crypto.com from the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates. According to the company, Crypto.com was the first cryptocurrency firm to receive the license. The company also reported that its monthly transaction volume in the UAE rose 49-fold between January and December 2025 during Al Hakim's tenure, without a dedicated marketing budget.
His work included a government digital payments initiative with the Dubai Department of Finance, which advanced to a pilot phase. He also developed relationships with regulators, banks, financial institutions, and international companies.
Al Hakim said his priorities at MultiBank Group include bringing MB.io to additional markets and expanding MultiBank Exchange's reach among institutional clients. He also plans to focus on partnerships and the development of services related to tokenization, digital asset trading, and financial infrastructure. The group says these efforts will support institutional use of its platforms and connect financial markets across regions.
MultiBank Group and MB.io
MultiBank Group was founded in California in 2005. The company reports that it serves more than 2 million clients in 100 countries, records daily trading volume above US$35 billion, and is regulated by more than 18 financial authorities across five continents.
MB.io is regulated by the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) in the UAE and AUSTRAC in Australia. The platform offers spot trading for cryptocurrencies, including MultiBank Group's $MBG utility token. It also provides on- and off-ramp services and an over-the-counter trading desk.
Al Hakim's appointment gives him responsibility for both MB.io and the expansion of MultiBank Exchange, while also placing him in a group-wide role focused on institutional and government relationships. MultiBank Group's stated plans include growing its digital asset operations and linking them with its existing financial market services.
