What is a forex deposit bonus?
A forex deposit bonus is extra trading credit that a broker adds to your account when you make a deposit. It is almost always expressed as a percentage of the amount you fund. Deposit $500 under a 100% bonus and the broker adds $500 of credit, so your platform shows $1,000 of equity to open trades with.
Brokers use these promotions to win new clients and to encourage existing clients to add more funds. For you, the appeal is simple: more margin means you can hold positions longer through normal price swings, or open slightly larger positions without depositing more of your own money. The catch is that the credit is rarely yours to withdraw straight away. In most cases it either stays in the account as margin support only, or it becomes withdrawable after you trade a set volume.
How the bonus credit works inside your account
On MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, bonus funds normally appear in a separate Credit line rather than in your Balance. Your balance is the money you deposited plus or minus closed profits and losses. Your equity is balance plus credit plus floating profit or loss. Margin calculations use equity, which is why a credit bonus increases how much you can trade.
The important detail is what happens when you lose. With most credit bonuses, losses come out of your own balance first. If your balance reaches zero, the broker removes the credit and the account stops out. A bonus therefore buys time, not protection: it keeps you in the market for longer, but it does not absorb losses on your behalf unless the terms say it does.
Tradable credit, withdrawable bonus and cash rebate
Not every deposit bonus behaves the same way, and the label on the promotion page does not always tell you which kind you are getting. There are three common structures. A credit bonus exists only as margin and is never withdrawn; you keep the profits you make with it. A withdrawable bonus converts to real balance once you hit a volume target. A cash rebate bonus pays out a slice of the bonus back to you in cash for every lot you trade, so you earn it gradually instead of all at once.
Types of forex deposit bonus
Brokers package deposit bonuses in several ways. Knowing the type tells you what you can realistically expect from it before you read the small print.
Welcome deposit bonus
Offered only on your first deposit, usually between 30% and 100%. It is the most common promotion you will see on our welcome bonus pages. These are often capped at a modest amount such as $500 or $1,000, and many brokers only apply them to standard accounts rather than raw spread or ECN accounts.
100% deposit bonus
The headline offer of the industry. A 100% bonus matches your deposit dollar for dollar, which makes it easy to understand and attractive for small accounts. The trade-off is that larger matches usually come with higher volume requirements, so check how many lots each $100 of bonus needs before treating a 100% offer as better than a 50% one.
Reload or recurring deposit bonus
Applied to every qualifying top-up, not just the first. Reload bonuses tend to be smaller, often 20% to 50%, but they reward regular traders who fund their accounts over time. Some brokers run them as seasonal campaigns; you will find the current ones in our special bonus section.
High percentage bonus (120% to 200%+)
Large percentage bonuses look generous, and on a small deposit they can be. They nearly always carry strict rules, such as the credit being removed if your equity falls to the bonus level, short expiry periods, or high lot targets. Treat them as extra margin rather than free money.
Crypto deposit bonus
Some brokers pay a bonus specifically for deposits made in USDT, BTC or other cryptocurrencies, or for funding a crypto CFD account. The mechanics are the same as a forex deposit bonus, but exchange rate movements between deposit and credit can affect the final amount. See our crypto deposit bonus list for current offers.
Loyalty, rebate and cashback bonuses
Closely related to deposit bonuses, these pay you back per lot traded rather than up front. For active traders a steady rebate can be worth more than a one-off match, because it reduces your trading cost on every position. Our rebates bonus page tracks them.
How to claim a forex deposit bonus
The exact steps differ by broker, but nearly every deposit bonus follows the same sequence. Missing one step, especially the opt-in, is the most common reason a bonus never appears.
- Pick an offer and read the termsNote the bonus percentage, the cap, the account types that qualify, the volume requirement and the expiry date.
- Open an account with the right entityMake sure you register under the broker's international entity that offers bonuses in your country, and choose an eligible account type.
- Verify your identityUpload proof of identity and proof of address. Many brokers will not credit any bonus until verification is complete.
- Opt in to the promotionActivate the bonus in your client area before depositing, or enter a promo code at the deposit step if one is required.
- Make a qualifying depositFund at least the minimum amount using an eligible payment method. Some e-wallets and crypto deposits are excluded from certain offers.
- Check the credit and start tradingConfirm the bonus appears under Credit on your trading platform, then track your traded volume against the requirement.
The terms that decide what a bonus is worth
Two bonuses with the same headline percentage can be worth completely different amounts. These are the conditions we look at first when we review a promotion.
Volume or lot requirement
This is the number of standard lots you must trade before the bonus, or the profit made with it, can be withdrawn. It is often written as a ratio, for example two lots for every $100 of bonus. Multiply the lots by your typical spread or commission cost per lot to see how much you will pay in trading costs to unlock it. If that cost is higher than the bonus, the bonus has no cash value for you, though it may still be useful as margin.
Withdrawal rules
Read what happens when you withdraw. Some brokers cancel the entire bonus on any withdrawal. Others remove credit in proportion; withdraw 20% of your balance and you lose 20% of the bonus. A small number allow profit withdrawals freely while keeping the bonus in place. The proportional model is the fairest and the most common among reputable offshore brokers.
Margin and stop-out behaviour
Check whether the bonus counts towards your margin level and what happens to it when your balance runs low. If the broker removes credit as soon as your balance hits zero, your effective stop-out comes much earlier than the platform's margin level suggests.
Expiry period
Many bonuses expire after 30, 60 or 90 days if the volume target is not met. A large bonus with a short expiry may be impossible to unlock at a sensible trading pace.
Eligible instruments, accounts and countries
Trades on some instruments may not count toward volume, or may count at a reduced rate. Bonus offers are often restricted to particular account types and are unavailable in certain countries. Hedged positions and very short trades are commonly excluded to stop abuse.
Deposit bonus vs no deposit bonus vs welcome bonus
Traders often use these terms interchangeably, but they are different promotions with different purposes.
| Feature | Deposit bonus | No deposit bonus | Welcome bonus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Funding needed | Yes | No | Usually yes |
| Typical size | 20%–200% of deposit | $10–$150 fixed | 30%–100% or fixed amount |
| Main purpose | Extra margin on real funds | Try live trading risk free | Attract new clients |
| Withdraw bonus? | After volume target, if at all | Profits only, usually capped | Depends on terms |
| Best for | Traders funding real accounts | Beginners testing a broker | New clients of one broker |
If you want to test a broker before committing any money, start with our forex no deposit bonus list. If you already plan to deposit, a deposit bonus gives you more to work with.
A worked example
Say you deposit $1,000 with a broker offering a 50% bonus capped at $2,000, which becomes withdrawable after one standard lot per $100 of bonus. Your credit is $500. To unlock it you need to trade five standard lots.
If your all-in cost per lot, spread plus commission, is $8, unlocking the bonus costs you about $40 in trading costs. You would end up with $460 of net value if you trade the volume anyway as part of your normal strategy. That is a strong offer.
Compare that with a 100% bonus on the same $1,000 deposit that needs five lots per $100. You get $1,000 of credit but must trade 50 lots, costing roughly $400. The net value is still positive, but the larger bonus requires ten times the trading and exposes you to far more market risk. For a trader who places a few trades a week, the smaller bonus is the better deal.
Pros and cons of a forex deposit bonus
Advantages
- More margin to trade with on the same deposit
- Lets small accounts ride out normal volatility
- Profits made with the credit are usually yours
- Can offset trading costs when the target is reasonable
Disadvantages
- Bonus credit is rarely withdrawable straight away
- Volume targets can push you to overtrade
- Withdrawals may cancel part or all of the bonus
- Only available from offshore or international entities
Regulation: where deposit bonuses are banned
Bonuses for retail traders are prohibited by several major regulators. Since 2018, European Union rules under ESMA's product intervention measures have banned monetary and non-monetary benefits for retail CFD clients. The UK's FCA applies the same restriction, and Australia's ASIC introduced a similar ban in 2021. Brokers licensed in these regions cannot offer you a deposit bonus on a retail account.
That is why most bonus offers come from a broker's international entity, typically regulated in jurisdictions such as Seychelles, Mauritius, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines or Vanuatu. These regulators provide less investor protection, with fewer guarantees around compensation schemes and segregation of funds. Before claiming a bonus, check which entity holds your account, read our broker reviews, and decide whether the extra credit is worth the lower level of oversight.
How we rate forex deposit bonus offers
Every offer listed on Fxdailyinfo is checked against the broker's full promotion terms, not just the banner. We score each one on five factors: the volume requirement relative to bonus size, the withdrawal policy, how the credit behaves at stop-out, the expiry period, and the regulatory status of the entity offering it. Offers that hide key rules, change terms without notice, or come from brokers with unresolved withdrawal complaints are excluded. Expired promotions move to our ended offers archive so you never act on an old deal.

Frequently asked questions
What is a forex deposit bonus?
A forex deposit bonus is extra trading credit a broker adds to your account when you fund it. A 100% bonus on a $500 deposit adds $500 of credit, giving you $1,000 of margin to trade with. The credit itself usually cannot be withdrawn until you meet the broker's trading volume conditions.
Can I withdraw a forex deposit bonus?
Usually not straight away. Most deposit bonuses become withdrawable only after you trade a set number of standard lots. Profits made with the bonus are typically withdrawable, but withdrawing part of your own deposit often cancels the bonus in full or in proportion.
Which forex deposit bonus is best?
The best bonus is the one with the lowest volume requirement relative to its size, a regulated broker behind it, and clear withdrawal rules. A 30% bonus with easy conditions can be worth more than a 120% bonus that needs hundreds of lots to unlock.
Are forex deposit bonuses legal?
Brokers regulated in the EU, UK and Australia are not allowed to offer bonuses to retail clients. Offshore and some international entities still offer them, so always check which regulated entity your account is opened under.
Does a deposit bonus protect me from a margin call?
It depends on the bonus type. Some credit bonuses count towards margin and help absorb drawdowns, but many brokers remove the credit when equity falls to the bonus amount, which can trigger a stop out sooner than you expect.
What is the difference between a deposit bonus and a no deposit bonus?
A deposit bonus requires you to fund your account and is calculated as a percentage of that deposit. A no deposit bonus is a small fixed amount given just for opening and verifying an account, with no funding required.
